Arrival!

We landed safely! The flight was super smooth and uneventful, as wished, and mostly I’m upset that I since I slept so well, I don’t know the end of Spencer, my in-flight movie choice (I mean. I KNOW how it ends, but I need to see Kristen Stewart’s ending). Ah, well. I’ll catch the other half on the way back.

We got our luggage back, a little travel-worn, but all correct and present (which is good, since the plane cabin storage got filled and Mom unexpectedly had to check her carry-on, and we were a little nervous about her having clothes, etc.) if the big bags were delayed, but no worries!

The Avalon people (who are all colleagues—“My colleague will take you to the bus,” “My colleague will check you in at the hotel,” “My colleague will provide you a map”) have been amazingly organized and prepared for every question and concern we have, and we’re currently awaiting a 5:30 meeting to learn more about our embarkment in the morning. I can see our boat from here! Our vessel is the Avalon Vista, and we’ll be setting out after our boat tour of the canals in the morning.

Today, we got here early enough to get out and explore Amsterdam a little; we set off toward Old Amsterdam’s city center with no particular goal in mind, other than lunch, and wandered around in the old buildings and winding streets. Amsterdam is a city of bikes and trolleys, so we are learning quickly to listen for the little bells behind us that indicate that we need to pay attention and not get knocked into the canals by a Dutch person on his way to work in a hurry!
